Is that a Wormie?

A Wormie is more than just a handmade designer light. It’s the first fruit of my efforts to bring the thought-provoking, often otherworldly experience of an art gallery into the homes, shops, and hands of everyday people. Through an artful blend of engineering and design, every Wormie is not only affordable, multipurpose, and fun to install - it also feels like an Art Installation.

That's because a Wormie is actually a scaled-down, productized version of a real 8m long Art Installation I made. In fact, seeing the visceral reactions that people had to that installation in real life was the reason I started designing a smaller solution (Wormies) to give more people access to that vibe in their space.

While I've got you here - did I mention that every Wormie is crafted with my own two hands in the Netherlands?

The Light that Goes Everywhere

The Wormie is a wall, table, ceiling, and floor lamp all in one. Thanks to it's flexible, lightweight core, if there are two flat surfaces near each other, Wormie can go there. 

Mould Wormie into your desired shape by hand and mount it in seconds with the screws provided and plug it in at the nearest power socket. All the parts are easily removable and replaceable so your Wormie can stay with you where you go - from your rental, to your dream house, or that empty shopfront down the road you've always had your eyes on.

If it doesn’t work in the spot you envisioned, or you just want to change things up, just stick Wormie somewhere new and plug it in — no fuss, just real, practical versatility.

Handmade Designer Lighting for Everyone

With Wormies, I wanted to make designer lighting accessible to regular people. Not just accessible in cost, but also accessible in usability and function. Wormies is designed to solve two very important barriers in the lighting world: Cost, and Installation (say goodbye to the Electrician).

By designing from the very start with a regular person in mind, the component costs have been kept low and installation easy by cleverly integrating already-tested off-the-shelf components.

More Art Piece than Light

A Wormie isn't just a light with a beautiful warm glow —it's a conversation starter. Like a dog that constantly interrupts conversations by being cute or the thing that you can always fall back on when conversation goes dull, Wormie demands attention and sparks curiosity. 

Wormie has presence. It's morphs as you move around the room, and it's depth and playful shape create a sense that it really has a personality.

Unlike every other light that's just one of many - Wormie can be morphed into a shape that resonates uniquely with you. Or of the space itself - fitting into a corner nothing else will fit or where wiring can’t go.

Every design has a story

Wormie - the product - emerged from a real art installation of mine rooted in a broader artistic concept - the beauty of capturing and preserving the elusive. Like capturing a bolt of lightning in a photograph, I believe there’s an inherent beauty in bearing witness to curiosities normally invisible to us, or perceptible only fleetingly. 

The Legend of the Wormie

Somewhere in dimensions higher than our own, there are radiant portals, gracefully sailing through worlds imperceptible to us. But on the rarest occasions, a portal momentarily glitches in and out of our world. When it does, it leaves it’s own fossil record behind. A cavernous, glowing cocoon, echoing it's exact passage through space, still radiating the warmth of that violent, fortuitous moment - that fossil record is a Wormie.

Or depending on who you ask, a Wormie is what you might find squirming around in the soil beneath you.
